COVID FAQ

WILL IT STILL BE TWINKLY AND LOVELY?
YES! Of course!

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE THERE?
We’re currently selling a maximum of 76 tickets. This is a bit different to the 250 who usually fill the Earthouse and we know it’ll feel a bit odd and empty, but we’ll fill it with stories just the same!

CAN I SIT WHERE I LIKE?
We know you love to choose where you sit in the Earthouse, but the layout of the space means that putting a seating plan on our ticketing system is on the brink of impossible. We have someone working on it for the future (hopefully these restrictions will have a short lived future!)

You can select which row you sit in when you buy a ticket, but we’ll allocate your seats. The very front row won’t be used at all, as it’s too close to the storyteller.

HOW WILL I GET SAFELY INTO MY SEAT?
This is one of our biggest challenges! We’ll ask you to take your seat just before the show starts. And we will seat each row at a time, with some sections of audience using different doors. This will reduce how many people are walking past those already seated.

WHAT IF IT’S RAINING?
Sheltering in the Earthouse will be difficult for us to manage safely, because limiting how many times you pass other people already seated is one of our main challenges. We’ll be making as many spaces on the site as possible available for people to shelter in – but you’ll need to be sensible and creative! Please bring a nice big brolly and a rain coat just in case.

WHAT ABOUT SPICED APPLE JUICE?
Our hot spiced apple juice is a strange tradition of storytelling at the Earthouse. We’ll still be serving it. How about bringing your own mug? That would be really helpful!

HAND GEL?
Yes – there will be hand gel available for you to use as you come onto site, outside the Earthouse, outside the Viking Long House and elsewhere.

WILL THE SITE BE CLEAN?
Yes! What can be cleaned will be cleaned before you come on site. If you know the site, you’ll appreciate that it never actually looks very clean! Grass, thatch, mud floors and walls just don’t generally look clean and our toilet floors are only ever clean for a matter of minutes before some pair of boots comes tramping in.

Remember that any amount of cleaning won’t stop the sheep from pooping on the grass, so do take care when sitting down to eat your picnic!

CAN I SIT WITH SOMEONE ELSE?
Seats are being sold mostly in pairs. We have a couple of trios and a couple of single seats too. If you need a group of four seats, then please buy two pairs and wait until you come to the venue, as we might find we can wriggle you closer together and still leave space around you (but we can’t make that promise I’m afraid).

We’ll assume that you are ‘bubbled’ with the people you want to sit with. These pairs and trios of seats will be right next to each other.

HOW MUCH SPACE WILL BE BETWEEN ME AND THE NEXT PERSON?
Each clump of seats (single, pair or trio) will be about 2m away from the next seats to the left and right and about 1.5m away from the next seats diagonally in front and behind. We are being more cautious than the government guidance, but at this stage we want to see how it feels. And of course, some people are bigger and some sit more cosily together than others, so please expect some flexibility in this, rather than getting out your tape-measure!

WHAT ABOUT QUEUES AT BOX OFFICE?
We’ll do our best to avoid queues at box office by having more than one box office operating and by opening the site nice and early. If you need to queue, then please do so at a 2m distance. And please remember to wear your mask when at the box office.
At box office we’ll ask you for your name. We won’t ask to see your ticket, unless your name doesn’t appear on our list, and then we’ll need to check it. All tickets will be electronic tickets. You can print them out if you like.

WHAT ABOUT THE LOOS?
I’m afraid you’ll have to form an orderly, socially distanced queue. The loos in the Viking long house will have a one way system in operation.

Do remember that there is another set of toilets at the entrance to the site, but we can’t make a one way system work there, so they’re a bit more tricky.

DO I HAVE TO WEAR A FACE COVERING?
Yes. It is compulsory to wear a mask when attending an indoor performance. We are also asking you to wear a mask at all other times when you’re inside one the buildings on site and when you show your tickets at box office. Our staff will also be masked. If you’ve forgotten your mask, please ask and we’ll find you one.

CAN I STILL PICNIC?
Yes of course! (And you don’t need to wear a mask whilst doing so!). Please picnic outside the Earthouse as usual and place yourselves at least 2m away from your fellow audience members. Let’s hope the sun shines…

WHAT IF SOMEONE ELSE ISN’T FOLLOWING THE RULES
Tell us and we’ll talk to them. As a first step, please be forgiving – for example, this may be the first time they’ve committed to sit and wear a mask for such a long period of time and we all know that it can get sticky.

WHAT ABOUT THE PERFORMERS?
The storyteller won’t be wearing a mask. They can’t perform with a mask on. We’ve taken out the front row of seating to leave a nice big space between you and them.

The performer will be temperature checked for 3 days leading up to the performance. If they have a temperature or any other symptoms of Covid, then they won’t perform and the show will either be cancelled or an alternative performer will be booked.

IF I’VE GOT COVID SYMPTONS – CAN I STILL COME?
Are you crazy? No! Please stay at home and get well soon.
